南韓政府今天(11日)宣布一名40歲的孕婦確診感染MERS，使得目前染病人數達到122人。專家認為，孕婦的免疫力通常較差，屬於MERS的高危險群，在用藥、治療時會比較棘手；且孕婦染病在全球都屬罕見個案，胎兒是否會受到垂直感染，值得重視。
根據南韓保健福祉部表示，最新通報的MERS確診病例中有一名孕婦，可能是在醫院的急診病房被感染，衛生單位檢驗3次才確診。
感染症專家、台大醫學院小兒科教授黃立民表示，孕婦感染反映出南韓醫院的MERS病毒分布得相當廣泛，由於孕婦的免疫力往往比較差，本來就是MERS的高風險群，在治療時又必須考量胎兒的問題，用藥比較困難。
黃立民指出，孕婦感染MERS在全球屬於少見病例，胎兒是否會受到垂直感染值得研究。黃立民說：『(原音)MERS有50%的人他的血液裡面測得到病毒，血液裡面只要有病毒，理論上就可以經過血液傳染給小孩，可是到目前為止沒有人證明這件事情，理論上是有可能的。不管(孕婦)血液有沒有病毒，都要對小孩檢驗看有沒有問題，我們可從這上面蒐集到很重要的資料。』
疾管署防疫醫師羅一鈞指出，MERS疫情自2012年在中東發生以來，文獻上只有1起孕婦感染病例，這名約旦的孕婦懷孕5個月，在感染MERS後自然流產，孕婦本身屬輕症痊癒。
羅一鈞說，就過去SARS疫情的觀察，孕婦罹患SARS屬於發生呼吸衰竭的高風險族群，且發生流產、早產、死產等併發症的風險也比較高。SARS疫情期間，全球一共通報15起孕婦病例，其中12起為香港病例，有2成5的人死亡、5成7的人自發性流產。MERS目前的資料不足，僅能推論孕婦罹患MERS可能也是高風險族群。
